ArmInfo.Moscow reacts to gas overtures between Yerevan and Baku, says Doctor of Political Sciences  Vahe Davtyan.

ArmInfo. Based on the results of the meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European  Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, a joint statement was adopted. The statement particularly reads as follows,

ArmInfo.At a meeting of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, an appeal was made demanding that  the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) take measures regarding the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia, located 16 km from the borders of Turkey. ArmInfo. Armenia's status as an electricity exporter may decrease significantly, and the time is not far when,  having a nuclear power plant, rich hydropower resources and the potential of solar energy development, the country will simply turn into a net importer of electricity.

ArmInfo. The situation in the international energy markets resultant from the war in Ukraine will not have any effect on the price of the Russian gas supplied to  Armenia, primarily due to the fact that Armenia is purchasing gas on  a contract basis rather than as spot purchase.

ArmInfo.The expected next increase in tariffs for gas consumed by subscribers is by no means due only to the need to bring the calorie content of gas into the  norm stipulated by the agreements. Expert on energy security, doctor  of political sciences Vahe Davtyan expressed a similar opinion to  ArmInfo.

ArmInfo.The expected increase in electricity tariffs is, in fact, a consequence of the crisis in the Armenian energy system. Director of the Energy Security Institute, Doctor of Political Sciences Vahe Davtyan expressed this opinion in an  interview with ArmInfo correspondent.

ArmInfo.The unprecedented rise in gas prices in Europe and membership in the EAEU, in theory, open up new opportunities for Armenia in the direction of lowering  the existing price for Russian gas. A similar opinion was expressed  to ArmInfo by an expert on energy security Vahe Davtyan.

ArmInfo.At this stage, conversations and discussions around the construction of a new  nuclear power plant in Armenia do not go beyond the framework of  table toasts, Vahe Davtyan, an expert in the field of energy  security, Doctor of Political Sciences expressed a similar opinion to  ArmInfo, commenting on the possibility of building a new nuclear  power plant in Armenia, voiced by Prime Minister Pashinyan at a  meeting with Russian President Putin.

ArmInfo.The emergence and strengthening of the Azerbaijani state-owned company Azerenergy on the Iranian electricity market is fraught with certain risks for Armenia. The President of the Institute for Energy Security, Doctor  of Political Sciences Vahe Davtyan expressed a similar opinion to  ArmInfo.

Commenting on the statement of the Armenian Prime Minister on the need to formulate single gas tariffs in the EAEU, it should be noted that there is no such issue on the agenda of the Union today and there  cannot be any  due to different levels of development and different models of  functioning of energy markets.
