Azerbaijan continues attempts to "hit" Armenian nuclear power plant

ArmInfo. Azerbaijan is not giving up attempts to "hit" one of the most painful areas of the Armenian energy sector - the Armenian nuclear power plant, which provides a third of all electricity produced in the country at the lowest tariff.

ArmInfo.Within the period of 21-25 February an IAEA Expert Mission on the Nuclear Security Culture Self-Assessment was held at the Armenian NPP with the assistance of the RA Committee for Nuclear Safety Regulation.    As the official website of the ANPP reports, the objective of the  mission was the familiarization with the results of the security  culture self-assessment conducted at the ANPP. The self-assessment  was included in the RA Plan of activities aimed at enhancement of the nuclear security in compliance with the IAEA Integrated Nuclear Security Support Plan (INSSP).

ArmInfo.The second reactor of the Armenian nuclear power plant (NPP) will be connected to Armenia`s power grid on November 17. This is the longest and most important planned maintenance. In an interview with ArmInfo, Ashot Martirosyan,  Chairman of the Nuclear Safety Committee, RA Government, told about  the work to extend the Armenian NPP`s operation life until 2026.

ArmInfo.On November 5, 1995, the second power unit of the Armenian NPP was restarted after an idle period of six and a half years. The decision to restart the  Armenian nuclear power plant helped Armenia to cope with the economic  crisis of the 90s, when the country, among other serious problems,  experienced an acute shortage of electricity.
