ArmInfo. Construction works on the M-6 Vanadzor-Alaverdi- Georgian border continue, only a couple of months behind the construction of the second section of the road. This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Communications and IT of Armenia Vahan Martirosyan on September 26 at a meeting with journalists.
According to the minister, construction works are in the forced mode. The first part of the program was launched in September 2016. On the second stretch of the Alaverdi road and to the Georgian border, the work is delayed a little, which, according to the minister, is due to objective reasons. "In order not to repeat the bitter experience associated with the bridges of the road" North-South "- in connection with the planned construction of Shnokhskaya HPP, a number of adjustments were made so that tomorrow, when the road is laid, it should not be closed and re-made, damaging the asphalt covering," - explained Martirosyan. As the minister noted, the tender for construction works on this section of the road was announced in September 2017. Until the end of the year an agreement will be signed with the winner of the contest. At the same time, as the head of the Ministry of Transport assured, everything will be done high-quality
It should be noted that the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) allocated 15.5 billion drams for the repair of the first section of the Vanadzor-Alaverdi-Georgian border road M-6. The second tender for construction works on a length of 58 km is already announced. The project is being implemented with credit from the Asian Development Bank, which has provided $ 50 million for its implementation. Some of these funds will be used to modernize the three sections of the M-6 interstate road. Earlier, it was reported that a $ 50 million loan from ADB was raised for the modernization of the M- 6 (Vanadzor-Alaverdi-Georgia Border) road with a length of almost 51.5 km.
The implementation of the program will solve the issue of employment, improve the social situation, provide assistance to the agriculture and tourism. According to the previously ratified agreement, Armenia will receive a ? 102 million loan from the European Investment Bank to repair the road from Vanadzor to the border with Georgia. The program will be co-financed by the European Investment Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The purpose of the program is to restore the interstate M-6 highway, 90 km from Vanadzor to Bagratashen. The work on the restoration of the program is planned to be completed within 2- 2.5 years. In the framework of the program, it is planned to expand the roadbed, as well as make changes to some of its sections, increase the level of safety and fully modernize the tunnel systems. This section of the road accounts for about 60% of the freight traffic from Armenia.
