ArmInfo. On the use of GSP opportunities Armenia in a number of countries with the highest efficiency. Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments of Armenia Garegin Melkonyan told reporters on the margins of the forum "Export opportunities of Armenian goods under the GSP program" on September 13 in Yerevan.
Garegin Melkonyan recalled that Armenia enjoys the status of the GSP beneficiary country with Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland and the United States. Within the framework of this system, as Melkonyan indicated, the goods produced in Armenia are imported into the United States at zero customs duty. In the case of the United States, this affects more than 3000 items. "Today our goal is to once again acquaint the business community of Armenia with the details of the US regime of preferential trade of GSP," the deputy minister said. As Melkonyan said, according to statistics, about 60% of Armenian exports to the US enjoy preferences within the GSP, which is quite a high indicator. "In general, the goods that could use this regime were actually used by him 100%, that is, Armenia, as our studies and discussions with our American partners showed, is one of the countries that make the best use of this regime," he said.
By now, as the Deputy Minister noted, thanks to the Generalized System of Preferences, sufficient growth in trade with the United States has already been registered. In January-July 2017, trade turnover increased by 38% to $ 91 million. At the same time, as Melkonyan pointed out, in the first half of this year, exports recorded a 66% growth and amounted to $ 35 million.
The GSP program (Generalized System of Preferences) was adopted in the United States in 1974 to stimulate economic growth in developing countries. Within the framework of the system, the import of goods (about 3,500 items) in the United States is carried out on preferential terms - in a duty-free regime, from 129 countries, including Armenia.
